Our Little Ladybug Turns One

We had Sara Grace's birthday party on May 3. We felt fortunate that all of our immediate family members on both sides of the family we able to come. It was quite fun. Of course, I had to do a ladybug theme. Sammy asked if it was for me or if it was Sara Grace. I figured at this point, it really didn't matter. Sara Grace didn't know the difference and I REALLY enjoyed the ladybug theme! Here's some pictures from the day:

She was somewhat tenative at first--not sure about this frosting stuff. Although, she did touch the cake as soon as we put it in front of her. We had to make Jaybird touch his first birthday cake.

Pretty soon, she decided it was pretty cool and started digging in.

She decided it was quite tasty! Lemon cake! *As a side note, her Uncle Lee (Susan's fiancee) has the same birthday (28 years older) and his favorite cake is lemon cake with chocolate frosting. We had made Uncle Lee a birthday cake of his own for the party and I used some of the batter to make Sara Grace's cake. That's why she had a lemon cake. :)

A word of warning to anyone thinking of putting red frosting on their child's first birthday cake--it WILL look like a crime scene when you are done! :)

Aunt Missy wanted to be the brave one to get Sara Grace out of the highchair and into the tub. More power to her! I wasn't really looking forward to it, myself.

All clean! I don't know if you can tell or not, but the water was red from all the frosting that washed off of her! And it left a nasty dark ring around my tub that I had to scrub to get off! :)

Just a shot of the balloon we got her. Not a "birthday" balloon, but I thought it fit the occaision quite nicely!

My How You've Grown!

Sara Grace turned a year old on the fourth and I just thought I'd post some "then and now" pictures. The first picture is from when she was four days old. The second one was taken last Sunday (two weeks after her first birthday). She's grown quite a bit! When she was born, she weighed 5lbs. 15.45 oz. and was 18.75 inches long. At her one year check-up, she weighed 20 lbs. 2.5 oz. and was 30 inches long! Now, if only it was such an accomplishment for adults to gain almost 15 lbs. in one year!! :)

Splish Splash

These pictures are from back before Easter, but I thought they were too cute not to share. This was the first time I gave the kids a bath together. They had a BLAST!!! They giggled nonstop! Sara Grace kept reaching up at Jaybird and it would tickle his chin....which made him laugh...which made her laugh. It was a hoot! Now anytime Jaybird takes a bath while Sara Grace is awake, she makes it known that she wants in the tub, too! And, Jaybird has asked me several times when he and Sara Grace can take a bath together again. :) And, I can't figure out how to fix the allignment of the pictures so that they're all even. But, I didn't figure it would really affect your viewing pleasure! :)

*WINK*

I winked at Jaybird the other day and I saw the look appear in his eye that clued me in to the fact he wanted to learn to wink, as well. So, after a little while of practicing all on his own, he came up to me and very excitedly informed me that he could now wink! I asked him to demonstrate.....and now I'm sharing his wink with you! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! :)

Hair Bows!!

In an attempt to satisfy my latest addiction (hair bows), I've been looking at many hair bow and hair bow making websites lately. The more I look, the more I think two things, "I bet I could do that" and "Man, these people are making a killing!!" So, the competitive nature in me had to prove to myself whether I could tackle this feat or not. Much to my pleasure, bow making is not super hard and I had some success (unlike my escapade with the dress I was supposedly going to sew for Sara Grace this weekend--but that's another story entirely!). So, I decided to start big so I could see what I was doing easier. This is a picture of my very first hair bow I made. I still have a lot of little things to tweak and perfect, but I didn't think it was too bad for my first-ever attempt. Since this bow was like 5 inches or so across, it was much too big for Sara Grace's sweet little head, so I gave it to a friend at church whose girls wear big bows. Plus, she's a Georgia fan, so the colors were right up her alley.
So, after the first attempt being somewhat successful, I was itching to make one for my own little honeybee. Here are some pics of the one I made today (it's only 2 inches across--much better size for her little noggin!). And, no, she's not upset about the bow in the first picture...it was just too close to naptime to be doing a photo shoot!!

Circus!!!

We went to the circus today. We had some friends offer us free tickets (SWEET!). It was really fun. The kids seemed to enjoy it....although Jaybird wasn't really fond of the clown and definitely didn't want to have his picture taken with him--not that I can blame him! Clowns are kinda freaky.
Sammy and I both got to try out the tight rope. Very fun. Thankfully someone held your hand the whole way across....oh, and it was only like two feet off the ground! :)

Sara Grace got to try on some circus garb. She thought it was quite fun. I think I would have liked to try on a cute dress like the other girls were wearing. They were too cute! :)
They handed out free clown noses that, of course, we all enjoyed!
Even Sara Grace had a little clown nose that she left on just long enough for a picture! :) There were all kinds of neat shows. The tigers were really pretty. There was a dude that rode a bicycle that was literally like maybe a foot long and six inches high. I have no idea how he did it. And, the rope climber girl was pretty cool, too. We had a really good time! Thank you Jason, Jessica, and Cloe for inviting us! :)

Egg Hunt

We had an Easter Egg Hunt at church the day before Easter. Sammy's parents came up for all the Easter festivities. Here's a shot of everyone on the starting line.

And one of Sara Grace checking out her eggs--she was happy with just the orange one, but Jaybird wanted her to have the pink one. He had found it in the field and said she needed it and brought it to her. :) I learned a valuable lesson at the egg hunt that day. Any of you with little girls of your own might want to tuck this away in your vault of random knowledge. *Tights and grass don't mix!* After I picked Sara Grace up from her nice little spot in the field, the tights were COVERED in grass....like it was stuck to them like little porcupines, and it wouldn't come off!! I ended up just trashing the tights--that's how bad it was! :)
